You probably never would have guessed it, but coconuts are relied on by a wide variety of industries and millions of people throughout the world. An endorsement from global shipping line Maersk for Nicaragua's US$40bn inter-oceanic canal is welcome news for the country's construction chamber, according to its president Benjamín Lanzas.

"Obviously when a company like that, which is one of the biggest in the world in terms of logistic transport, speaks well of Nicaragua's interoceanic canal, I think that is a good push," Lanzas told Nicaraguan news outlet El Pueblo Presidente.

Are You Safer in Nicaragua?

Evan Sweeney

Voyaging through Nicaragua was my first introduction and experience into this new country. Arriving at the border crossing between Costa Rica and Nicaragua, it was soon apparent that Nicaragua was going to be a serene and pleasant adventure. The feeling of safety and comfort that came over me was much needed while on this journey. In comparison to some of the other countries that I have visited, Nicaragua quickly made its way to the top. I admired and appreciated everything from the police, to the locals assisting with directions. Although the directions given might not be top notch, they will always give it a valiant effort.

Why Nicaragua Should Be Your Next Destination

Michael Cobb

Over the last decade, Nicaragua has been grabbing the attention of a select group of forward thinking people from across the world. This is a country that stands out from others in the region and it's not only because of its enchanting atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, the beaches are exotic, the climate is fantastic year-round, and the culture is traditional, yet very inviting. But there is a lot more to Nicaragua that the trend-setters are starting to discover which is making this country an emerging leader in Central America.

The Nicaraguan Lifestyle: An Insider's Perspective

Noah Krassenstein

Before most people consider moving to another country, they usually want to know what the key differences are between the U.S. and the new area they're thinking about. The best way to get that kind of information is to find someone who has lived abroad for a few years and can answer any of your questions. Carol Cobb is a married woman and a mother of two daughters. A few years ago, she and her family moved from the U.S. to Managua, Nicaragua, and they have been happily living there ever since.

Can you give me a brief description about the community you live in?

I would call it an American style community with a gate. There are about 25 to 30 homes. There are sidewalks, cul de sacks, and a small park where the kids can play.

Timber Farming – On the Ground in Nicaragua

David J. Drummond

Driving south on the Pan-American Highway through Nicaragua one notices the geographical changes that provide the fertile farming grounds of the southwest peninsula. Almost immediately after the volcano Monpacho disappears in the rear view mirror; the twin volcanoes Concepcion and Maderas appear on the southern horizon. And you see the landscape change.
