Medical Tourism in Nicaragua
The high prices and declining quality of medical and dental treatment in the U.S. are sending North Americans abroad in ever increasing numbers. Plastic surgery in Brazil, open-heart procedures in India, hip replacements in Mexico, and many other services in a variety of countries are becoming the new norm. The U.S. ranks #35 in quality of medical care, behind third world countries such as Costa Rica and Cyprus, yet U.S. prices continue to sky-rocket. Dental care has surpassed the budgets of middle class Americans, most of whom are uninsured, and for those who are insured, deductibles are prohibitively high. Of the many destinations for medical/dental tourism, Nicaragua is possibly one of the newest – and cheapest. Yet the quality of care and services available rival any of its more popular Latin American neighbors such as Mexico, Costa Rica or Brazil, and a memorable tropical vacation in Nicaragua won’t break the bank.
