Beauty for Ashes Project November Update

We are excited to announce that due to all of the dedication and hard work from the children and families outside of the trash dump here in Managua that we have reached our eco-brick halfway point and are on schedule to start construction on the sewing studio after Christmas! We have over 3,000 eco-bricks and the community has really come together and embraced this project in a special way. As we prepare for construction starting on February 1, 2014, we are still seeking funding for sewing machines, tables, chairs and also more volunteers to help us on the ground here. Want to join in on the fun but you aren't good with a hammer? Don't worry - you don't need a background in construction for this project! The entire studio will be built out of garbage, recyclables and a mixture of earthen materials known as "cob." It will serve as a model for a new type of construction here in Nicaragua and we plan to document the entire process so we can share this amazing construction method with other NGO's, churches and most importantly, Nicaraguans who need a safe home to live in but who can not afford to buy common building materials.
We are also gearing up for Christmas and excited to have the opportunity to bring gifts and Christmas dinner to as many families as possible. If you would like to take part in bringing Christmas to a family here in Nicaragua please let us know.
$10 allows us to provide 1 child with Christmas gifts and a small bag of candy
$20 buys Christmas dinner for a family of 5
$50 buys an efficiency stove for 1 family
We are planning on capturing video footage of all of the children and families receiving gifts and food this Christmas season so we can share this joy with you and show you the impact your generosity has this holiday season. We look forward to sharing that with you soon!

What exactly is an efficiency stove?? Glad you asked. There are several kinds of efficiency stoves, however, we are focused on building Rocket Stoves. Take a peek at this 1 minute YouTube video to learn more:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nio61fMjDy4
As always, thank you to those of you who invest in the work we do and make all of this possible. From all of us here we wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
With blessings,
Kara and the Beauty For Ashes Project family
